Integration of an Agri-PV-coupled H₂ complete system

Objective:

An agricultural business relies on a sustainable energy supply through the combination of agrivoltaics and hydrogen technology. The aim is to reduce self-consumption of fossil fuels, decarbonize agricultural processes and at the same time become economically independent of rising energy and operating costs.

Solution:

Installation of a combined agri-PV and hydrogen system on the farmland:

  • Agri-photovoltaic system (300 kWp) for dual use of the area for power generation and agriculture
  • 100 kW PEM electrolyzer, powered by own PV electricity to produce green hydrogen
  • Hydrogen storage for flexible use and intermediate storage
  • H₂ power generation unit for own power requirements in harvest or night phases

Use cases in operation:

  1. Energy independence: The hydrogen produced is used to supply the farm with electricity and heat – even with low PV generation.
  2. Decarbonization of agriculture: Green hydrogen replaces diesel or gas in agricultural technology – e.g. for hydrogen-powered tractors, combine harvesters or farm loaders
  3. Yield optimization through agri-PV: The dual use of the land enables additional income from electricity production, while agricultural use remains possible (e.g. special crops, pasture farming).
